More than 70 school counselors attended the 2017 Fall SEC College Tour in the Northeast, Sept. 11-13. Destinations included Portland, ME, Boston, and Providence RI.
In its third year, the fall edition of the SEC College Tour provides an opportunity for admissions representatives from each conference university to travel together to an area outside of the SEC’s geographic borders and host events for school counselors in that region.
“It’s great to have the SEC institutions visit as a group,” said Jill Atkinson, Director of College Counseling at Boston University Academy. “I’ve been to several of the campuses and as a counselor in New England, it was valuable to learn the many aspects of every SEC university so I can pass that information along to my students.”
In each city, the school counselor breakfasts featured brief presentations on SEC institutions where admissions representatives discussed academic requirements, scholarship opportunities and first-year experiences, among other topics.
“I’ve been to many of these events but the format of the SEC College Tour was unique,” said Atkinson, who is a graduate of the University of Georgia. “Learning about everything from scholarships to university traditions made the event informative and fun.”
Previous SEC College Tour stops have included the Southern California, Pacific Northwest and Midwest regions, among others. Specific dates and locations for the 2018 Spring SEC College Tour will be announced soon.
The SEC College Tour is part of SECU, the academic initiative of the Southeastern Conference. SECU serves as the primary mechanism through which the collaborative academic endeavors and achievements of SEC universities are promoted and advanced.
