BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — More than 500 prospective students and parents, many with younger siblings in tow, turned out for the 2022 Spring SEC College Tour, recently held in the central Colorado cities of Denver, Colorado Springs and Broomfield. The tour also welcomed more than 100 school counselors in those same cities.

Since 2009, the SEC College Tour has been a way for high school students and counselors in a region outside of the Conference’s traditional geographic footprint to learn about member universities from experts in enrollment and admissions. The recent tour was planned by Texas A&M University and was the first in-person opportunity since 2019.

“Students attend SEC universities because they want the best college experience in the nation, and we hope tour attendees will understand everything our universities have to offer,” said David Tofel, Director of Recruitment at Texas A&M University. “Our students are succeeding in classrooms and laboratories as much as they are on the court and in the field, and we are proud to showcase how we are igniting careers, transforming lives and changing the world.”

The SEC College Tour includes an evening fair for students and their parents that features short presentations and question and answer sessions with university representatives, in addition to opportunities to visit with SEC professionals at one’s own pace. During the morning counselor meetings, SEC representatives offer more detailed institutional overviews, and the highlight of the day continues to be the SEC Roll Call where attendees are taught each university’s cheer or chant.

This was the SEC’s second trip to Colorado. In October 2015, the SEC hosted counselors-only events in Fort Collins and Englewood, along with Denver and Colorado Springs.

The goal of the SEC College Tour is to broadly advance the merit and academic reputation of SEC universities through outreach events. And it is one of several programs designed by the Southeastern Conference to highlight the range of accomplishments of SEC students, faculty and administrators. Other components of the tour initiative include national virtual events for students and counselors as well as a new international event.

Dates and locations for the 2022-2023 SEC College Tour will be announced.
