The Southeastern Conference (SEC) will expand its slate of academic programming to include an on-campus event focused on SEC university collaboration, the league office announced Wednesday.
Each year, the SEC will work with one of its member universities to organize the SEC Academic Conference, the first of which will be held at Mississippi State University in the spring term of 2017. This on-campus event is expected to showcase Conference research in areas of critical importance within the region and around the nation. Faculty, students and administrators from all 14 SEC universities will be invited to attend and participate.
“The SEC Academic Conference provides another opportunity for us to support the work being conducted on each SEC campus,” said Greg Sankey, SEC Commissioner. “Our universities are making important contributions to the challenges we face on regional and national levels, and we believe the SEC Academic Conference can become a platform to highlight their research.”
The SEC Academic Conference will be an addition to the existing menu of programs currently supported by the SEC under its SECU banner. SECU, the academic initiative of the SEC, serves as the primary mechanism through which the collaborative academic endeavors and achievements of SEC universities are supported and advanced.
