BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 23, 2021) – Dr. Scot Burton, Distinguished Professor in Marketing in the Sam M. Walton College of Business, has been named winner of the 2021 SEC Faculty Achievement Award for the University of Arkansas, the SEC announced on Tuesday.

For more than 30 years, Dr. Burton has researched consumer health and well-being, price perceptions, consumer response to advertising and sales promotion and measurement issues associated with survey research. He has consulted with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, and his research has been published in outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Businessweek, U.S. News & World Report and National Public Radio, along with scores of academic journals. Last year Dr. Burton received the American Marketing Association Lifetime Achievement Award in Marketing and Society, which is given to individuals who exemplify outstanding scholarship, service and instruction.

“Dr. Burton is a multi-talented faculty member and renowned marketing researcher on both national and international levels,” said Dr. Charles Robinson, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at Arkansas. “He sets the standard for insightful, high-impact research, and for quality teaching, pedagogy and service to the academy.”

To receive an SEC achievement award the faculty member must have achieved the rank of full professor; have a record of extraordinary teaching, particularly at the undergraduate level; and have a record of research that is recognized nationally and/or internationally. University winners will receive a $5,000 honorarium from the SEC and will become their campus nominee for the SEC Professor of the Year Award, which will be announced in April.
