BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Admissions and enrollment administrators from the Southeastern Conference’s 14 member universities will host the league’s first ever virtual SEC College Tour in October, the Conference announced Thursday.
Organized by the University of Georgia and aimed at school counselors in the Greater New York area from October 5-7, this year’s fall tour will reimagine the traditional in-person experience where SEC representatives have historically traveled to cities outside of the Conference’s geographic footprint to meet with local high school counselors.
Given the present realities associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, university enrollment and admissions leaders determined a virtual series of events focused on New York City, the original destination identified for fall 2020, offered a unique opportunity to continue the popular and longstanding outreach effort.
“The goal of the SEC College Tour since its inception in 2009 has been to present our universities to those outside of our area, and although doing so in person has been our practice, we have learned this spring and throughout the summer that virtual events can be effective,” said SEC Associate Commissioner for Academic Relations Dr. Torie A. Johnson. “We are looking forward to our first virtual event, and to introducing ourselves to school counselors in New York in new and exciting ways.”
This new iteration of the SEC College Tour will continue to provide attendees with a chance to engage SEC university representatives while learning about the missions, academic and extracurricular opportunities, and admissions requirements of all 14 SEC institutions. The schedule will also continue to include Q&A sessions and individual presentations from each member university.
The SEC also conducts a spring college tour that typically brings together school counselors and students and families. Details about the spring 2021 event will be announced at a later date.
The goal of the SEC College Tour is to broadly advance the merit and academic reputation of SEC universities through outreach events, and it is one of several programs designed by the Southeastern Conference to showcase the range of accomplishments of SEC students, faculty and administrators.
