The 2015 SEC College Tour will visit three cities in Northern California, April 13-16. Tour stops include Berkeley, San Jose and San Francisco.
The SEC College Tour, in its seventh year, provides an opportunity for local high school students and counselors in a region outside of the SEC’s geographic footprint to learn more about SEC institutions from admissions administrators representing each Conference university. The University of Alabama is the planning institution for this year’s event.
“The SEC College Tour serves to advance the academic, social and scholarship offerings of SEC universities beyond the geographic borders of our Conference,” said Dr. Bradley Barnes, Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Enrollment Management at Alabama. “Furthering our brand into parts of the country where the SEC may be less known provides access and educational opportunities to students who otherwise may not have received exposure to our schools.”
Each stop of the college tour includes two events. A college fair is held in the evening for high school students and their parents, which allows them to visit with admissions representatives and hear presentations from each university. The following morning, a counselor breakfast allows university representatives to provide brief presentations about their institution’s history, admissions standards and student experiences.
“When we visit areas of the country where they are not necessarily familiar with the schools of the SEC, when we come in mass, we show a big picture,” said Cindy Singley, Director of University Recruitment at Auburn University. “We don’t have to spend as much time identifying our region because our region is self-defined by the Southeastern Conference.”
Previous SEC College Tour regional destinations include the Midwest (2009), Atlantic (2010) and Pacific Northwest (2012), among others.
The SEC College Tour is administered by SECU, the academic initiative of the Southeastern Conference. SECU is the primary mechanism through which the SEC showcases the academic endeavors and achievements of its 14 member universities.
