BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – More than 450 attendees met with SEC admissions and enrollment representatives in April, as the Southeastern Conference College Tour made its way back to the southwestern United States.

Six events took place from April 18-21 in Mesa, Arizona; Phoenix, Arizona; and Las Vegas, Nevada, with each stop hosting a high school counselor breakfast and a nightly student college fair. The SEC College Tour was previously held in Arizona and Nevada in the fall of 2019.

This year’s tour was planned by the University of South Carolina and provided Conference universities an opportunity to showcase the unique educational and student life experiences on each campus.

“We had such a great experience meeting with students, parents and high school counselors in Phoenix and Las Vegas through this SEC tour,” said Jessica Freed, director for recruitment at South Carolina. “We loved being able to share what an SEC education can offer to students who might be less familiar with our institutions. Our students are just as successful and impressive in our research labs as they are on the court or field.”

The SEC College Tour includes a free, two-hour evening fair for students and their guests that features short presentations with university representatives, in addition to one-on-one meeting opportunities with individual schools.

During the morning counselor meetings, SEC representatives offer institutional overviews and introduce the audience to each of the universities’ unique athletic traditions. The presentations were followed with a more detailed question-and-answer session.

“This is the second SEC (College Tour event) that I have attended, and it did not disappoint,” one counselor said. “Each time I leave with more information to help guide my students with options out of the state of Arizona.”

In its 14th year, the goal of the SEC College Tour is to broadly advance the merit and academic reputation of SEC universities through outreach events beyond the Conference’s geographic footprint. It is one of several programs designed by the Conference to highlight the range of accomplishments by SEC students, faculty and administrators.
