The Southeastern Conference together with the College Football Playoff Foundation is honoring teachers as part of its Extra Yard For Teachers initiative. Each week of the college football season, SEC Nation, the SEC Network’s traveling pregame show, will feature a student-athlete story from each SEC institution, highlighting the impact of teachers in the lives of SEC student-athletes.

The mission of Extra Yard for Teachers is to elevate the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering teachers. Each teacher mentioned in the student-athlete testimonials will be recognized, and his or her school will receive a $10,000 grant for the purchase of school supplies and materials.

Said Misty Brown, the SEC’s Director of Student-Athlete Engagement: “The Southeastern Conference has established three areas to focus its community outreach efforts, and one of the three areas of focus is education. With the support of the College Football Playoff Foundation, the SEC is able to bring awareness to the importance of education through the Extra Yard For Teachers program, by recognizing 14 outstanding teachers who have had a significant impact in the lives of our student-athletes. Through the grant provided by the College Football Playoff Foundation, the Conference can continue to cultivate efforts in the classroom by providing funding for the purchase of school supplies and materials to the schools from which those teachers are being recognized.”

SEC Nation airs Saturday mornings on the SEC Network during the college football season and includes live reports, analysis and features surrounding SEC football.
