BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 15, 2021) – High school students, families and school counselors in the Chicago and Indianapolis metro areas are invited to participate in a virtual SEC College Tour April 20-22, the Southeastern Conference announced Monday.

Organized by the University of Mississippi, the event will reimagine the traditional in-person experience where admissions and enrollment administrators from the SEC’s 14 member universities have historically traveled to cities outside of the Conference’s geographic footprint to meet with local students and counselors.

Given the continuing realities associated with travel and the COVID-19 pandemic, officials determined a virtual series of events focused on Chicago and Indianapolis – the destinations identified for spring 2020 and later cancelled – will provide an opportunity to continue the popular and longstanding outreach effort.

“The goal of the SEC College Tour since its inception in 2009 has been to present our universities to those outside of our area, and although doing so in person has been our practice, we learned last fall that a virtual SEC tour can be effective,” said Dr. Torie A. Johnson, SEC Associate Commissioner for Academic Relations. “We are looking forward to introducing ourselves to students and counselors in the Midwest in a different way.”

The virtual iteration of the spring SEC College Tour will still give attendees information about the missions, academic and extracurricular opportunities, and admissions requirements at all 14 SEC institutions. The schedule will also continue to include Q&A sessions and individual presentations from each university.

The goal of the SEC College Tour is to broadly advance the merit and academic reputation of SEC universities through outreach events, and it is one of several programs designed by the Southeastern Conference to showcase the range of accomplishments of SEC students, faculty and administrators.
