BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Admissions and enrollment representatives from each Southeastern Conference member university joined together to host two SEC College Tour events for high school counselors across the country.

The campus professionals traveled to Boise, Idaho, as well as Provo and Salt Lake City in Utah from September 13-15 to interact in-person with more than 50 counselors for the annual Fall SEC College Tour. It marked the first time the tour took place in the region.

Planned by the University of Alabama, the SEC representatives offered institutional overviews and introduced the audience to each of the universities’ unique athletic traditions. The presentations were followed with a more detailed question-and-answer session.

The University of South Carolina then hosted the Virtual SEC College Tour on October 6, and the webinar welcomed approximately 115 counselors. In a similar format to the in-person events, the SEC universities presented information before answering questions live in the webinar. Counselors from both events were given printed or digital resources to use as guides.

“SEC students are succeeding in classrooms and laboratories as much as they are on the court and in the field,” said Jim Landers, director of undergraduate admissions at Alabama. “The SEC College Tour let us show attendees how our universities’ resources, academic majors and student programs provide a unique college experience for each student. I believe each of our attending counselors left with a new understanding of everything our universities have to offer.”

The purpose of the SEC College Tour is to expand the merit and academic reputation of SEC universities through outreach events. It is one of several programs designed by the Conference to showcase the range of accomplishments of SEC students, faculty and administrators.

Along with the in-person and virtual fall counselor events, the SEC College Tour portfolio includes regional travel in the spring involving prospective students, their families and school counselors. Locations and dates for the 2023 spring event are to be announced.
